The Big Science Read campaign invites you to explore, re-discover and get excited about science-themed books and hopes to stimulate public debate of current issues relating to scientific and technological advances. We’ve put together a suggested reading list of contemporary popular science and fiction titles to get you started and there are plenty more recommendations of seminal science reads and other resources to be found here.
The Big Science Read launched at Jodrell Bank’s literary weekend, 13th - 14th June 2008, featuring award-winning space historian Piers Bizony and celebrated Science Fiction author Brian Aldiss. For full details visit www.jb.man.ac.uk or phone 01477 571339.
The Big Science Read is co-ordinated by Manchester Literature Festival, Manchester Science Festival, Time to Read and Jodrell Bank (The University of Manchester).
The Big Science Read Vote
We are inviting members of the public to vote for their favourite science-themed read - any book that you have found life-changing, inspirational or revelatory. The book can be either factual or fictional in genre as long as it explores science or technology as a core theme. We will be announcing the winner of the public vote at a special event later in the year. To vote for your favourite book and share your personal reviews with others please see our vote section. And don't forget you can discuss the books and other related topics at the Manchester Literature Festival blog or the Manchester Science Festival blog.
